Lessons Learned from the Pandemic?
2020 has been a year filled with major challenges. The pandemic raises various difficulties, both on a personal and societal level, and it highlights underestimated human rights issues. What about the right to education when schools are closed? How can the rights to data protection or freedom of assembly be preserved under the current health protection measures? Under which conditions can infringements of human rights be justified and what are the limits? Let us take the opportunity to learn from the crisis.
On the occasion of Human Rights Day, a Human Rights Talk will focus on the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis on human rights, address how the pandemic has aggravated pre-existing threats on human rights of vulnerable groups, but also shed light on possible avenues for a democratic and human rights compliant recovery.
Following a keynote speech by Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, high-level experts will participate in a panel discussion and take questions from the audience.
